I was diagnosed with HSV-1 oral herpes, but I have never had the symptoms of a full-blown herpes outbreak. Your story gives me some hope that maybe my HSV test was a false positive. I have read blood testing has a high rate of false negatives and false positive results and PCR DNA swab is the gold standard of accuracy and results you can believe as truth. I do take Daily Valtrex suppression therapy and not sure if it's causing my blood testing to show zero antibodies to the hsv virus as if I'm herpes negative and don't have the virus. I also get them every time I've been in the sun. The only way they received a positive result was pcr dna swab on my saliva in my throat during my first outbreak that lasted over a month, and it reactivated after eating corn my trigger food. I've had hsv1 for a 11 months, but I consistently test negative by lgg blood test even at 8 months after my first coldsores outbreak and experienced prodromes of tingling and itching my 2nd outbreak and I tested 4 times by blood, even if Doctors do test regularly for herpes you can not trust the results. Got the Western Blot after self educating. I’m happy this experience had a good ending and truly hope it helps others. It’s unfortunate that I and many others have gone through this. The process for the Blot has a few steps, but it’s not as difficult as I thought it would be. The CDC recommends it for a reason!Īside from the Western Blot, the only other reliable test is a positive swab. My advice, if you haven’t had and outbreak/positive swab and you test low pos. I wasted a ton of money repeating Igg antibody tests when I could’ve gotten the western blot earlier. This is due to proteins that some people have in the blood that are similar to the weight of the Herpes virus. People with false positive results tend to bounce around the low pos, equiv, neg range. I knew I needed to get the Western Blot to get clear answers. that’s when I realized I was truly wasting time and money testing for IGG. The CDC recently updated Herpes Testing guidelines, suggesting confirmation testing for low igg values due to how common false-positives are at low index values (1.1 - 3.0). They kept offering to re-test Igg over and over, even when I suggested The Blot. My doctors kept pushing that I was positive and “that’s it”. I also learned first-hand that many doctors are pretty much clueless about Hsv. I began to do my own research, joined Reddit, learned about testing and how unreliable the more commonly used tests are. I continued to retest for IGG only to receive more equivocal’s and even a Negative result. I retested for IGG a few weeks later, and was surprised to see an equivocal value at 1.0x I’m not a doctor, but I’m truly hope that my experience can help someone.įor short, I tested positive for HSV2 about 6-7wks after a new partner. I wanted to let you all know that I’m here if you have any questions or need advice about anything. I went through the motions of the diagnosis. I grieved my “positive” diagnosis, disclosed, ended relationships, etc. This entire experience was life changing, to say the least. I am happy to say that I have gotten the Western Blot and I am negative for both HSV 1 &2. Hey all! I hope this post gives hope to some readers this holiday season.
